About the role
The Technical Underwriting Training & Development Manager leads the Training & Development pillar of the Underwriting Excellence program across APAC. The role designs competency frameworks, learning pathways and certification models to uplift underwriting capability and ensure consistent, high‑quality decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Define the APAC underwriting capability strategy and multi‑year learning roadmap aligned to business priorities.
- Design, maintain and certify role‑based competency frameworks and blended learning programmes (e‑learning, virtual workshops, on‑the‑job assessments).
- Own LMS administration for APAC, including course management, enrollment, certification tracking and analytics that link learning outcomes to business KPIs.
- Lead onboarding pathways, accelerated development programmes and mentoring/coaching initiatives for new underwriters and high‑potential talent.
- Partner with CUOs, Product Heads, HR and Change Management to ensure training supports system releases, product rollouts and governance changes.
- Manage a regional training team, external vendors and the training budget while driving continuous improvement through feedback and quality assurance.
Required profile
- Significant experience in insurance/underwriting with proven capability‑development or instructional‑design expertise in a regulated environment.
- Practical knowledge of commercial and retail underwriting to create relevant technical content.
- Demonstrated ability to build competency frameworks, certification programmes and manage enterprise LMS platforms.
- Strong stakeholder management experience with senior underwriting leaders, HR and product teams.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (education, business, insurance, HR) and preferably a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
