Technical Specialist - Battery Electric Locomotives

About the role

Wabtec Global Freight Services supports customers' locomotive fleets through tailored maintenance contracts, overhauls, asset performance management, upgrades and modernisations. Reporting to the Service Leader, the Technical Specialist supports a Battery Electric Locomotive (FLX Drive) project in Port Hedland. It is a permanent, residential role on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster; FIFO is not offered.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the customer on implementing new battery electric locomotives across operations, maintenance and engineering
• Coordinate field modifications, monitor their effectiveness and track fleet performance, reporting trends to parts ordering and lead min/max levels
• Resolve customer issues quickly, provide troubleshooting, failure support and engineering advice, and investigate failed components for warranty administration
• Coach the customer on maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and help them transition the locomotives into operations
• Interact with regional Wabtec teams on issues, product development and training, and report on reliability trends, root cause analysis and Pareto charts in monthly customer meetings
• Manage day-to-day material requisitions and build spreadsheets, technical reports and project trackers
• Achieve Wabtec internal training certification within 18 months

Required profile

• Grade A electrical licence or equivalent
• Experience in the rail industry, preferably on Wabtec/GET locomotives
• Ability to manage several projects at once in a fast-paced environment and strong customer focus
• Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, and to work in the Pilbara region of Western Australia
• Current working rights in Australia; visa sponsorship is not available
• Background and criminal history check required

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Independent creation and maintenance of spreadsheets, technical reports and customer-facing documentation
