Team Leader – Analytical Chemistry

About the role

Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists delivering analytical chemistry services and applied research that support Queensland's environmental and natural resource management priorities. Based at the Ecosciences Precinct in Dutton Park, you will provide scientific leadership across soil, water, sediment and plant analysis while contributing to major monitoring and research programs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a high‑performing team delivering analytical, physical chemistry and biological analyses for soils, sediments, plants and water.
• Oversee laboratory operations, ensure compliance with NATA accreditation and ISO 17025 standards, and deliver accurate, timely scientific results.
• Contribute specialist expertise to environmental programs such as reef water‑quality improvement, nutrient tracing, soil carbon and stable isotope research.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve analytical methodologies and drive innovation.
• Represent the Chemistry Centre on state and national committees and build collaborative relationships with government, research and industry partners.

• Demonstrated experience managing scientific projects and multidisciplinary teams.

• Scientific credibility with a commitment to innovation, quality and customer service.

Required skills

• Analytical chemistry techniques for soil, water, sediment and plant samples.
• Method development and validation, including nutrient tracing and stable isotope analysis.
• Knowledge of NATA accreditation and ISO 17025 quality systems.
• Experience with water‑quality assessment and soil carbon investigations.
