Teacher of English (Parental Leave Cover)

About the role

Ivanhoe Grammar School, a co-educational independent school, is seeking an experienced English teacher to join its academic staff at the Ridgeway Campus. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month fixed-term parental leave position starting in January 2027. The teacher reports to the Curriculum Leader and works closely with the Head of Pedagogy.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver research-informed learning using the school's Instructional Model (Warm Up, New Learning, Dive In, Reflect)
• Teach English to Years 7-11 students, including VCE Unit 1/2 English
• Embed universal practices such as clear learning intentions, formative assessment and student goal setting
• Create calm, inclusive classrooms that support curiosity, collaboration and high expectations
• Monitor and support student learning and wellbeing using data, feedback and professional judgement
• Contribute to House life, co-curricular programs and wider campus initiatives
• Engage in reflective practice, coaching and collaborative planning

Required profile

• A relevant teaching qualification, ideally complemented by postgraduate study in Education, Curriculum or Pedagogy
• Demonstrated experience teaching English to Years 7-12 students; VCE experience is advantageous
• Ability to prepare students for high-stakes assessments, including VCE examinations
• Valid VIT registration and a commitment to child safety and inclusive practice
