Tax Accountant

About the role

Michael Hill, a dual‑listed international jewellery retailer, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Tax Accountant to join its dedicated Tax Team in Brisbane. This high‑ownership position focuses on multi‑jurisdictional tax compliance, process improvement and cross‑functional projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and lodge group income tax returns and GST/FBT/Non‑Resident withholding tax returns across all operating jurisdictions.
• Drive process improvements for both direct and indirect tax functions.
• Respond to audit and risk enquiries from state and federal revenue authorities, preparing supporting information and liaising with external advisors.
• Conduct internal compliance reviews, maintain tax‑related balance‑sheet reconciliations and support financial accountants on various initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• Ability to manage changing priorities, work with large data sets and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with a high attention to detail.
• Capability to interpret and apply taxation law to business transactions.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel for handling large volumes of data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using Microsoft AX Dynamics.
