System Architect

About the role

Leidos Australia's Mission Software Systems (MSS) team is looking for a System Architect in Melbourne. You will define and govern the architecture of complex systems from concept through delivery and sustainment, translating operational needs into system structures, interfaces and design principles while guiding teams through major technical decisions. The team works on intelligence, software and cloud solutions across the full intelligence lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop system architectures, viewpoints, models and technical roadmaps aligned with capability and lifecycle requirements.
• Decompose operational needs into system requirements, functions, components and interfaces.
• Lead architecture reviews, option assessments and technical trade studies, documenting decisions and constraints.
• Work with engineering, security, integration and project teams to maintain architectural integrity as the solution evolves.

Required profile

• Essential: experience developing system, solution or enterprise architectures for complex technical environments.
• Ability to move between strategic context and technical detail, communicate architecture clearly and guide multidisciplinary teams.
• Advantageous: knowledge of recognised architecture frameworks or modelling languages, and experience with model-based or digital engineering tools.
• Advantageous: exposure to secure, safety-critical or mission-critical systems.
• Must be an Australian citizen, hold an active TSPV clearance and be able to pass the OSA; certain roles may be subject to ITAR restrictions.

• Requirements decomposition, functional analysis, interfaces and systems engineering lifecycle practices.
• Architecture modelling, design documentation and technical governance.
• Evaluating solution options and communicating trade-offs, risks and recommendations.
