Surgical Hospital Medical Officer (PGY3+) – 2027

About the role

Mercy Health is seeking eligible medical officers to complete a 12‑month PGY3+ clinical year on the Surgical Stream at Werribee Mercy Hospital, starting February 2027. The position is fixed‑term, full‑time (76 hours per fortnight) and includes rotations across general and specialty surgery, orthopaedics and emergency medicine.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in General/Specialty Surgery rotations, including sub‑specialties such as Colorectal, Breast/Endocrine, Upper GI and Urology.
• Undertake Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine duties, including night shifts as required.
• Engage in weekly education sessions, simulation workshops and case‑based learning organised by the HMO education program.

Required profile

• Hold General Medical Registration in Australia by the start of 2027 (or meet eligibility criteria for Australian‑trained, temporary resident, AMC graduate, or New Zealand graduate).
• Demonstrate excellent communication, time‑management and organisational skills, and a commitment to Mercy’s values of compassion, respect and teamwork.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in General Surgery and its sub‑specialties.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and manage patient care across surgical, orthopaedic and emergency settings.
