Registered Nurse – Instrument/Circulating Theatre Nurse

About the role

The Instrument/Circulating Theatre Nurse provides safe, evidence‑based nursing care during the intra‑operative phase for a wide range of surgical specialties at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, handle, check and record surgical instruments and sundries as a scrubbed team member, maintaining aseptic technique.
• Act as circulating nurse to protect the sterile field, assist the instrument nurse and ensure infection‑control protocols are followed.
• Practice in line with NMBA standards, ACORN peri‑operative nursing standards and AS/NZS 4187.
• Engage in continuing education and professional development.

Required profile

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience in surgical instrument or circulating nursing roles is desirable.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable.

Required skills

• Instrument handling and tracking.
• Aseptic technique and infection prevention.
