Structural Engineer – Bridges, Structures & Ports

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Professional Engineer specialized in bridges, structures and ports to join its dynamic Sydney team. You will contribute to the design, analysis and delivery of complex infrastructure projects, working alongside multidisciplinary experts to create innovative, cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse bridge structures from preliminary concepts through detailed engineering and construction documentation.
• Develop structural solutions for maritime infrastructure such as wharves, breakwaters, jetties and related facilities.
• Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and structural modelling to verify compliance with Australian building codes and standards.
• Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, calculations and technical specifications for clients and regulatory authorities.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers and other engineering disciplines to integrate structural requirements into overall project delivery.
• Conduct site inspections, assess existing structures and identify design constraints.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with proven expertise in bridge design and/or port infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of Australian standards and regulatory requirements for structural design.
• Professional engineering licence or eligibility for registration with Engineers Australia (preferred).
• Experience on large‑scale infrastructure projects in the Australian market.

Required skills

• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as MIDAS, SAP2000 or Strand 7.
• Finite element analysis (FEA) and structural modelling capabilities.
• In‑depth understanding of bridge engineering principles, load analysis and material selection.
• Familiarity with port and maritime infrastructure design considerations.
