Staff Specialist – General Medicine (Regional NSW Hospital)

About the role

This full‑time Staff Specialist position in General Medicine is based at a major regional hospital in New South Wales, about an hour from Sydney. The role offers senior clinical leadership within a busy, diverse inpatient service and the chance to shape both acute and general medical care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist‑level inpatient care across General and Acute Medicine.
• Participate in after‑hours and on‑call rosters as required.
• Support safe patient flow, bed management and transfers of care.
• Deliver outpatient clinics and internal consult services.
• Offer clinical leadership, mentorship and teaching to registrars, junior doctors, nursing and allied health teams.
• Ensure care is evidence‑based, safe, equitable and aligns with best practice standards.
• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, quality improvement, research and service development.

Required profile

• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General & Acute Care Medicine.
• AHPRA Specialist Registration (unrestricted).
• Extensive experience in general medicine and acute inpatient care.
• Commitment to outreach models for rural and regional communities.
• Demonstrated clinical leadership and enthusiasm for teaching.
• Interest in quality improvement and research activities.
• Excellent communication skills and a patient‑centred approach.
