Clinical Forensic Medicine Physician

About the role

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine seeks an experienced Clinical Forensic Medicine Physician to provide expert clinical care, medico‑legal opinions and leadership within a multidisciplinary team supporting health, policing and the justice system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical forensic care, examine patients and document findings related to physical and sexual assault.
• Assess individuals in police custody for fitness to be interviewed and collect biological specimens.
• Prepare medico‑legal reports, statements and give oral and written expert evidence.
• Supervise, mentor and support clinicians, contributing to education, training and research.
• Participate in quality improvement, service planning, strategic initiatives and on‑call roster as part of a 24‑hour service model.

Required profile

• Medical practitioner with MBBS or equivalent and registration with AHPRA (or eligibility).
• Forensic medical qualification (e.g., FFCFM, FFLM) and at least eight years postgraduate experience, including five years in clinical forensic medicine.
• Strong judgement, integrity, independent professional practice and ability to work in complex clinical environments.
• Commitment to victim‑centred, trauma‑informed care and inclusive clinical leadership.
