Staff Specialist – Emergency Medicine (Newcastle, NSW)

About the role

The Hospital is seeking a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine to join a high‑performing Emergency Department serving a large regional population. You will work in a modern, well‑equipped department that handles around 45,000 presentations each year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute care across dedicated Resuscitation, Acute, Fast‑Track and Paediatric zones.
• Manage patients in the Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU) and coordinate with ICU, operating theatres, oncology and diagnostics.
• Participate in the hospital’s trauma and retrieval centre activities, including a locally based helicopter service.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

Required profile

• Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or eligibility for AHPRA specialist registration.
• Recent, comprehensive experience in Emergency Medicine.
• Commitment to teaching, supervision and ongoing professional development.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Leadership experience and a focus on patient‑centred care.
