Registered Nurse – Older People’s Mental Health

About the role

This permanent full‑time role offers a Registered Nurse the chance to work within the Community Older Persons Mental Health Service, providing specialist mental health care to older adults in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering assessment, treatment and ongoing support in homes, residential aged care facilities and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health, psychosocial and risk assessments for older consumers.
• Develop, implement and review collaborative care plans with consumers, families and carers.
• Provide nursing interventions, psycho‑education, medication support and monitor treatment response.
• Undertake home visits, residential aged care facility visits and community‑based assessments.
• Participate in multidisciplinary clinical reviews, case discussions and service development activities.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence for community visits.
• Strong clinical judgement, communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to person‑centred, recovery‑oriented care.

Required skills

• Foundational clinical nursing skills and professional judgement.
• Experience in mental health nursing is highly regarded; specific older persons experience is not essential.
