Staff Front-End Engineer - Design Systems

About the role

Canva is looking for a Staff Front‑End Engineer to lead the evolution of its design system across web and mobile platforms. You will own the portable UI platform that powers Canva’s user interfaces, enabling a single codebase to render on both React DOM and React Native.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the development of a universal component library that works on web and native mobile.
• Abstract cross‑platform complexity into the design‑system layer, providing portable‑first capabilities to product teams.
• Set standards for building, distributing, and consuming portable components at scale.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and day‑to‑day collaboration.
• Collaborate with product teams across Canva to ensure the platform meets current and future needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience building large‑scale front‑end systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to define abstractions before product teams need them.
• Ability to influence technical decisions across multiple product groups.
