Sous Chef – Full Time

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Full‑Time Sous Chef to join the team at Steeples in Mornington. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will help lead daily kitchen operations, ensure high‑quality food, and maintain safety and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in keeping the kitchen running smoothly and service on point.
• Prepare and plate quality dishes that look great and keep guests returning.
• Lead and motivate the kitchen team, fostering a positive culture.
• Maintain food safety, cleanliness and kitchen standards at the highest level.
• Manage stock, ordering and supplier relationships to minimise waste.
• Monitor food and labour costs to meet budget and profitability targets.
• Support recruitment, training and development of team members.

Required profile

• At least 3 years' experience in a professional kitchen, with experience leading or supporting a busy service.
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification).
• Current Food Safety and Food Allergens Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance requirements.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and keep service running smoothly.
