Software Engineer – Customer Solutions (Hybrid, Sydney/Surfers Paradise)

About the role

Westpac is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Chief Technology Office and help deliver the UNITE program. You will design, build and improve customer‑servicing and origination solutions across online and staff‑facing channels, working in a hybrid model from Sydney or Surfers Paradise.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise end‑to‑end solutions for banking customers.
• Collaborate with architects, delivery leads, product owners and platform teams to shape solutions.
• Build and maintain reliable, scalable RESTful APIs using contract‑first approaches.
• Leverage modern tools, including AI‑assisted code generation and automated testing, to accelerate delivery.
• Support production systems, monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in at least two of Java/Kotlin (Spring Boot), TypeScript/JavaScript (React) or SQL.
• Hands‑on experience designing RESTful APIs, object‑oriented design, domain‑driven design and test‑driven development.
• Proficiency in SQL and data modelling across MSSQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL, plus knowledge of batch and streaming data flows.
• Experience using AI tools for code generation, automated code review, test scaffolding and prompt engineering.
• Focus on developer experience, automation, DevOps and CI/CD practices.
