Software Engineer – Customer Solutions (Hybrid, Sydney/Surfers Paradise)

About the role

Join Westpac’s Chief Technology Office as a Software Engineer, building and supporting the technology that powers everyday banking for customers. This full‑time permanent role is based in Surfers Paradise or Sydney with a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and improve customer servicing and origination solutions across online and staff‑facing channels.
• Collaborate with architects, delivery leads, product owners and platform teams to shape end‑to‑end solutions.
• Develop and maintain reliable, scalable systems using modern tools, including AI‑assisted development.
• Support, optimise and operate production services, ensuring high availability and performance.

Required profile

• Strong core engineering skills with proficiency in at least two of Java or Kotlin (Spring Boot), TypeScript or JavaScript (React), or SQL.
• Hands‑on experience designing and building RESTful APIs using contract‑first approaches.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: object‑oriented design, domain‑driven design, test‑driven development, infrastructure as code.
• Strong SQL and data‑modelling skills across MSSQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL, with understanding of batch and streaming data flows.
• Experience using AI tools for code generation, automated code review, test scaffolding and prompt engineering.
• Focus on developer experience and automation, with practical DevOps and CI/CD expertise.
• Proven ability to build and operate reliable systems at scale and communicate complex technical ideas clearly.
