Software Engineer – Autonomous Systems

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Integrated Defence & Autonomous Systems (IDS) team. The role offers location flexibility across Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide or Canberra and focuses on delivering high‑quality software for real‑time operating environments that control autonomous vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop software for real‑time operating environments supporting autonomous vehicle control.
• Implement software enhancements following established coding standards and best practices.
• Plan, execute and support software testing, integration activities and create automated test scripts.
• Produce test reports and maintain engineering documentation for software releases.
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders and cross‑functional project teams.
• Conduct technical and peer code reviews to ensure quality and compliance.
• Adhere to defined engineering processes, procedures and management plans.
• Provide recommendations to improve project processes and development practices.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in technology, engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant software engineering role.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Hands‑on experience working in Linux or Windows software development environments.
