Software Engineer – 9‑month contract

About the role

Leidos Australia is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Defence ICT team on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design, develop, integrate and deliver software components for critical defence systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software components aligned to system requirements and architecture.
• Support implementation of core services such as data processing, synchronisation and system functionality.
• Assist with system integration across software, infrastructure and networking components.
• Contribute to verification and validation activities, including testing and defect resolution.
• Support fault finding, remediation and the production of technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and project teams to deliver integrated solutions and transition software into operational environments.

Required profile

• Foundational experience in software development (professional, academic or project‑based).
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python or C++.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle and testing concepts.
• Willingness to learn and work within a structured, governed delivery environment.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, communication and teamwork skills.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for NV2 security clearance.
