Software Development Engineer, Network Fabric Engineering

About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centres, servers, storage, networking, power and cooling. The Core Networking team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join its Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. You will build software services that deploy and scale the Amazon networks supporting AWS, customers and other business units across multiple global data centres. The team works 24x7 on call rotation, with the option to come into the workplace for critical events.

Key responsibilities

• Build software services to deploy and scale the Amazon networks across global data centres
• Deliver high-quality, extensible design and code in a fast-paced environment with rapid delivery of new services and features
• Troubleshoot network issues and manage customers during problem resolution under pressure
• Identify and implement performance, scalability and efficiency optimisations
• Mentor and guide junior engineers
• Manage competing priorities and communicate clearly, in writing and verbally, across organisations
• Travel to data centre, network sites and customer offices as needed

Required profile

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling)
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• Preferred: 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing and operations

Required skills

• Linux/Unix environment
• Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills
• Extensive background in network engineering
