HammondCare is looking for a warm and friendly volunteer to spend time with an older woman living in South Coogee who values regular companionship and a genuine friendship. She has lived in several countries including Israel, South Africa, Cyprus and Greece, and was a professional opera singer before retiring; she still enjoys singing and loves sharing stories about her travels and the people she has met. She can feel lonely at times and would like a volunteer to help her get out of the house more often.

• Visit a local café
• Reminisce and exchange stories about life experiences
• Provide regular companionship and social connection
• Take a gentle-paced walk to look at the ocean
• Make weekly or fortnightly visits, on the same day and time each time, to build a lasting friendship
• Visit in her home in Eastgardens, for one hour, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Sunday

Required profile

• A minimum 6-month commitment
• Kind, reliable and patient, and enjoys connecting with others
• No special skills or experience required
• 18 years or older
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare

The role is focused on building a consistent friendship and is not suitable for work experience, student placements or placement requirements. Interested applicants are contacted by phone or text, and then by email if needed.
