Site Engineering Manager - Automation

About the role

MECCA's Distribution Centre receives and distributes products to more than 100 stores across Australia and New Zealand and fulfills online orders. It is introducing sophisticated automation technology to transform the centre, and is looking for an experienced Site Engineering Manager to lead the engineering and automation function. Reporting to the National Distribution Centre Manager, you will own the day-to-day engineering, maintenance and automation across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure conveyors, sortation systems, AS/RS, robotics and the Knapp OSR shuttle solution deliver reliable performance
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex faults and partner with Knapp, OEMs and other service providers
• Drive preventive and predictive maintenance through the CMMS, using performance data and failure trends to maximise uptime and throughput
• Oversee site maintenance and facilities, ensuring building, equipment and statutory compliance obligations are met
• Track engineering metrics such as MTBF and MTTR and identify improvements to reliability and automation performance
• Champion a safety-first culture and work with Distribution Centre and Supply Chain leaders on continuous improvement

Required profile

• Trade or tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Significant experience in an engineering or maintenance leadership role in an automated warehouse, distribution centre or manufacturing environment
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, able to stay calm and methodical during downtime and critical faults

Required skills

• Hands-on knowledge of automated material handling systems such as conveyors, sortation, AS/RS and robotics; Knapp or comparable OSR shuttle experience highly regarded
• Experience using a CMMS for preventive and predictive maintenance
• Understanding of engineering performance measures such as MTBF and MTTR
