Signal Technician

About the role

Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems team is seeking a Signal Technician to install, maintain and repair signalling systems across Queensland rail networks. You will work with software engineers, testing and commissioning teams and project managers to deliver safe and efficient rail operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test and commission signalling equipment such as track circuits, point machines, signals and train‑control systems.
• Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance and document performance data.
• Troubleshoot faults using diagnostic tools and provide timely repairs.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on upgrades and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.
• Support client‑side maintenance teams, junior staff and apprentices through training and mentoring.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Rail Signalling (Electrical) – mandatory.
• Valid Electrical Licence and Rail Industry Worker Card.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote QLD sites.
• Proven experience in rail signalling maintenance, installation or commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of signalling principles, standards and relevant rail safety regulations.
