Signal Technician

About the role

Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signalling & Systems team is seeking a Signal Technician to install, maintain and repair signalling equipment across Northside Brisbane to Beerwah, QLD. You will work closely with software engineers, testing and commissioning teams and project managers to ensure safe and efficient rail operations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test and commission signalling components such as track circuits, point machines, signals and train‑control systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to keep infrastructure reliable.
• Troubleshoot faults using diagnostic tools and resolve issues promptly.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on upgrades, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Provide technical support during commissioning and document all activities, test results and performance data.
• Assist in creating training material and mentor client‑side maintenance teams, junior staff and apprentices.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Rail Signalling (Electrical) – essential.
• Current Electrical Licence and Rail Industry Worker Card.
• Valid clean driver’s licence with willingness to travel to remote QLD sites.
• Proven experience in rail signalling maintenance, installation or commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of signalling principles, standards, regulations and rail safety requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
