Senior Software Engineer – Research & Innovation

About the role

Join Saab Australia's Research & Innovation team to design and deliver advanced software solutions that support future defence capabilities. You will work on cutting‑edge R&D initiatives, rapid prototypes, and concept demonstrators for mission‑critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and delivery of innovative software solutions for defence R&D programs, prototypes and demonstrations.
• Support agile project delivery, including planning, estimation, testing, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with defence security, export control and classified information handling requirements.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and engineering expertise within multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship with eligibility for Defence Security Clearance (NV1) and ITAR access.
• Experience developing software in defence, aerospace, combat systems or other complex, software‑intensive environments.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Java, C++, C#, Ada, Python, Go, Bash, TypeScript.
• Version control: Git.
• Containers and middleware: Docker, DDS.
• Engineering tools: IBM DOORS, Atlassian tool suite.
• Experience with Linux‑based development environments and Agile methodologies.
