Senior Software Engineer - Python & AWS

About the role

A client is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the cloud-based data and analytics engine behind several of its flagship programs, which run in the background of the energy transition. The role is based in Melbourne or Sydney, hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day working from home), on a 6-month contract with a high chance of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose defects and problems across large, complex, integrated systems, not just fix issues that have already been flagged.
• Design and build cloud-based software components on AWS, end to end.
• Break complex work into clear, actionable tasks and support junior developers through delivery, including regular code reviews.
• Work directly with stakeholders to shape solutions and get them endorsed by leadership.
• Help raise coding standards and practices across the wider team.

Required profile

• Extensive hands-on Python development experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex production issues clearly to non-engineers.

Required skills

• Extensive experience deploying and operating complex software in AWS.
• Strong fundamentals with Git, GitHub Actions and a solid IDE workflow.
