Senior Radio and IP Testing and Commissioning Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a senior engineer to lead testing, integration, commissioning and optimisation of Radio Access Networks (RAN) for rail telecommunications projects in Brisbane. The role combines hands‑on field delivery with coordination of materials, stakeholders and safety compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, test and optimise RAN equipment to ensure high availability and performance.
• Integrate and configure BTS/radio equipment across GSM‑R, LTE/4G and 5G rail communication networks, including tunnel and brownfield environments.
• Execute site testing, drive testing, RF performance analysis and produce detailed technical reports.
• Troubleshoot and resolve RAN‑related issues during testing, integration and commissioning phases.
• Coordinate with signalling, ETCS, networking, power and infrastructure teams to support broader system delivery.
• Ensure all activities comply with site safety, access and rail corridor requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in RAN design, testing, integration and commissioning, preferably on large‑scale Australian rail projects.
• Tertiary engineering qualification suitable for full membership with Engineers Australia.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and site‑based activities.

Required skills

• Design, integration, testing and optimisation of GSM, GSM‑R, LTE/4G and 5G radio technologies.
• Strong understanding of RF principles, radio planning, coverage, interference and performance analysis.
• Hands‑on experience with drive‑testing tools, RF analysis and test reporting.
• Experience troubleshooting complex RAN and telecom integration issues in live environments.
