Network Design Engineer

About the role

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Network Design Engineer to join its Project Delivery Group. The role involves creating and supporting communication network designs from concept through detailed design and construction across mining, energy and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare design studies, calculations and documentation for concept, feasibility and detailed design phases.
• Develop ICT architectures, network topologies, IP address plans and configuration specifications.
• Design structured cabling, enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD‑WAN and fibre‑optic networks, integrating CCTV, video management, access control and emergency communication systems.
• Produce engineering drawings, bills of material, patching schedules, cabinet layouts and technical specifications.
• Conduct design reviews, support verification, testing, commissioning and handover, and review vendor submissions.

Required profile

• Strong safety attitude and ability to meet safety requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Telecommunications, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in ICT engineering or systems design, preferably in heavy industries.
• Proven experience designing enterprise and infrastructure ICT systems.
• Excellent communication skills with internal and external clients.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, Ethernet, fibre‑optic, routing and switching.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
• Experience with structured cabling, LAN, WAN, WLAN and SD‑WAN design.
• Ability to create IP address plans, network topology diagrams and configuration specifications.
• Proficiency in producing engineering documentation, drawings and bills of material.
