Senior Payroll Manager

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term position backs up a senior payroll function while the current manager is seconded to a payroll optimisation project. You will act as the subject‑matter expert for People Operations, cross‑functional stakeholders and employees, driving process optimisation and governance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the fortnightly payroll cycle on time, handling updates, adjustments and statutory deductions (Payroll Tax, Superannuation, FBT, Workers’ Compensation).
• Design, implement and monitor payroll processes and controls, ensuring compliance with legislative changes.
• Manage complex payroll queries and escalations using root‑cause analysis.
• Provide reporting and analysis of payroll operations, workflow and risk controls.
• Mentor the payroll team and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior payroll leadership experience within a large, complex organisation.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and governance.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model (three days onsite, two days remote).

Required skills

• Experience with integrated HRIS/payroll systems architecture, preferably Dayforce, Workday or SAP SuccessFactors.
• In‑depth knowledge of payroll statutory requirements (tax, superannuation, FBT, workers’ compensation).
