Senior Mental Health Nurse - Alice Springs

About the role

The Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT (RFDS) is recruiting a Senior Mental Health Nurse to deliver stepped, evidence-based, culturally safe mental health services, mostly within remote First Nations communities. Based in Alice Springs and Port Augusta, the role reports to the Mental Health Service Manager and involves specialist mental health care delivered by telephone, telehealth and face-to-face support, with day-to-day clinical leadership and supervision of less experienced staff.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist mental health care by telephone, telehealth and face-to-face support, following national standards and legislation
• Provide formal and informal supervision to less experienced staff and help them with complex clinical work
• Lead community mental health promotion and social and emotional wellbeing activities and build partnerships with community service providers, First Nations Elders and traditional healers
• Take part in National research within Aboriginal communities and evaluate clinical practice
• Support the Mental Health Service Manager operationally, including proxying when required
• Work safely, uphold the Code of Conduct and take part in quality and safety programs

Required profile

• Registered nurse with a current AHPRA registration and practising certificate
• Recognised mental health nursing qualification, such as a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
• Experience in mental health interventions, promotion and social and emotional wellbeing initiatives
• Experience in rural/remote, cross-cultural settings and mental health consultations by video conference
• Desirable: postgraduate mental health qualification, 4x4 driving experience and expertise in counselling individuals, couples, families and groups
