Senior Mechanical Engineer – Lead Design Team

About the role

Join a fast‑growing manufacturing business as a Senior Mechanical Engineer where you will not only design but also lead, shape, and influence engineering delivery. You will coach engineers and drafters, build robust processes, and ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and delivered quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for mechanical design, reviewing and approving drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Mentor graduate engineers and draftspersons, providing feedback, development, and direction.
• Lead design activities across manufacturing, assembly, and installation while ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and client specifications.
• Produce and review detailed drawings and documentation that are accurate and optimised for manufacture.
• Manage design timelines to align with production schedules and resolve technical issues promptly.
• Develop standard designs, processes, and structured ways of working to improve consistency and reduce rework.
• Conduct design risk assessments, engineering change reviews, and root‑cause investigations.
• Provide technical input to project managers, clients, and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Qualified mechanical engineer with depth of design experience and the ability to make autonomous decisions.
• Strong mentoring skills; comfortable developing junior engineers and drafters.
• Background in manufacturing or heavy‑industrial environments.
• Progress toward CPEng registration or equivalent accreditation is an advantage.
