Senior Mechanical Designer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Designer will work with lead designers to deliver mechanical engineering design packages for mineral mining and processing projects, covering underground copper/gold hard‑rock mining, lithium/alumina surface mining and related processing facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed mechanical designs, equipment layouts and engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Microstation and Advance Steel, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and client specifications.
• Develop and manage 3D plant models, coordinate clash detection with Navisworks or equivalent tools, and interpret geotechnical, civil and structural interfaces for fully coordinated designs.
• Liaise with project engineers, managers and client representatives to manage deliverables, resolve technical queries and ensure on‑time delivery.

Required profile

• 8–12 years of mechanical drafting and design experience, with at least 5 years in mining and mineral processing (copper, gold, alumina preferred).
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience delivering design across all stages from pre‑feasibility to construction.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Microstation, Open Plant Modeler, Advance Steel and Navisworks.
• Knowledge of underground hard‑rock and surface mining systems, ore handling, ventilation, dewatering and processing plant equipment.
• Familiarity with Revit and Plant 3D is highly regarded.
