Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

A client that designs and manufactures bespoke heavy vehicle equipment is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team in Adelaide on a permanent basis. The salary is $120,000-$140,000 per year depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacture
• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies and engineering drawings
• Design components and assemblies for heavy vehicles and equipment
• Review designs for accuracy, quality and manufacturability
• Work with manufacturing and fabrication teams to resolve technical issues
• Liaise with suppliers and external manufacturing providers
• Maintain engineering documentation, drawings and BOMs
• Support prototype builds, testing and design validation
• Identify opportunities for design improvement and manufacturing efficiency
• Provide technical guidance to other team members across a variety of bespoke projects

Required profile

• At least 4 years' experience in mechanical design engineering or a similar role
• Previous experience designing heavy vehicles, trucks, trailers or similar equipment
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience designing fabricated components, sheet metal and structural steel
• Experience producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings
• Experience managing design projects from concept to production
• Ability to work autonomously, guide other team members and manage competing priorities

Required skills

• 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, Inventor or similar
• Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing processes
• Understanding of fabrication, assembly and design for manufacture
