Senior Management Accountant

About the role

In this permanent full‑time position you will support informed decision‑making across the council by delivering robust financial insights and strategic advice. You will work within the Financial Planning and Analysis team, providing dedicated financial support to the council’s capital programme and major infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced management accounting and financial analysis, including monthly performance reporting and insights.
• Analyse actual, budget and forecast results, identify risks and opportunities, and present clear recommendations to leaders.
• Partner with capital project managers and delivery teams to provide financial oversight, insights and advice throughout the project lifecycle.
• Resolve complex accounting, cost allocation and data integrity matters in line with policy and best practice.
• Act as subject‑matter expert in financial systems and reporting tools, supporting data use and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to improvements in management accounting processes, capital project governance and financial data quality.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
• At least 5 years’ experience in management accounting or financial analyst roles.
• Experience supporting capital programmes, infrastructure projects or project‑based environments is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outputs.

Required skills

• Advanced analytical, problem‑solving and financial modelling capabilities.
• Proficiency with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle Financials.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
