Senior Legal Officer

About the role

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Beenleigh is seeking a PO4 Senior Legal Officer for a 12‑month fixed‑term role. You will lead the preparation and management of complex prosecution matters, including appeals, and represent the State in a variety of courts.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage prosecution cases on complex matters, including appeals, ensuring professionalism and timeliness.
• Advocate in court for appeals, sentencing, committal hearings and bail applications across Magistrates, District and higher courts.
• Collaborate with defence counsel, police, victims, witnesses and other stakeholders, maintaining clear and respectful communication.
• Engage sensitively with complainants and relatives, particularly in sexual or violent offence cases.
• Lead, mentor and develop legal officers and support staff, fostering high standards and professional growth.
• Identify and implement improvements to work practices and processes.

Required profile

• Admission as a Legal Practitioner in an Australian State or Territory (admission date required).
• Proven ability to apply legal principles, draft documents, provide advice and act as a confident court advocate.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training legal teams.
• Trauma‑informed, culturally sensitive approach when supporting victims of crime.
• Commitment to high ethical standards and professional competency.
