Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

This senior position within KBR's Australian Legal team partners with senior business leaders on high‑value Defence projects, providing strategic legal leadership and hands‑on involvement in complex matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of legal services across Australian operations, supporting Defence projects.
• Provide strategic advice on high‑risk, business‑critical matters and balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
• Draft, negotiate, review and approve complex commercial, government and quasi‑government contracts.
• Partner with business leaders on major bids and tenders, advising on contracting strategy and risk allocation.
• Advise on Australian Government contracting and procurement frameworks, including fixed‑price and cost‑reimbursable contracts.
• Support strategic transactions such as joint ventures and alliances.
• Oversee disputes, claims and investigations, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
• Develop legal policies, processes, templates and governance frameworks for continuous improvement.
• Manage legal budgets and external spend in line with KBR governance.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian legal practitioner with a current practising certificate.
• Extensive post‑qualification experience, including significant in‑house legal work.
• Deep expertise in Australian Government contracting, commercial agreements and regulatory compliance.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide pragmatic, business‑focused legal advice.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and capability building.
