Senior Legal Counsel – Corporate

About the role

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) is creating a senior legal position to lead a broad corporate legal portfolio. You will advise on corporate, commercial, governance, legislative compliance, public law and policy matters, providing practical guidance to support organisational decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on governance, complex corporate matters and key ONRSR projects.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, procurement and commercial agreements.
• Ensure compliance with information, privacy, data management, WHS, whistleblowing and FOI obligations.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, advise on impact and update compliance registers.
• Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks, advising senior executives.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, legal precedents, templates and databases.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
• Proven experience in a corporate, government or highly regulated environment.
• Strong commercial judgement, curiosity and a practical approach to problem‑solving.
