Senior Legal Adviser – Native Title & Land Justice

About the role

The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is seeking a senior legal professional to provide high‑profile advice on Victorian native title and traditional owner land‑justice matters. You will join the Public Law Team within the Office of the General Counsel, reporting to the Special Counsel (Land Justice).

Key responsibilities

• Deliver expert legal advice on native title and traditional owner settlement issues.
• Support and participate in Federal Court litigation processes.
• Provide legal input to Ministers and Cabinet on policy reforms and agreement‑making in the land‑justice space.
• Contribute to the development of whole‑of‑government policy and performance strategies.

Required profile

• Proven ability to give technically excellent advice on complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
• Strong commitment to service excellence and timely, solution‑focused advice.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure.
• Outstanding stakeholder relationship, negotiation, written and oral communication skills.
• Proactive work style, capable of both independent and team contributions, with leadership qualities.
