Senior Laboratory Production Scientist

About the role

Australian Scientific Enterprise (ASE) makes clinical pathology diagnostics, Quality Control (QC) and External Quality Assurance (EQA) materials for pathology laboratories worldwide. It is seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Production Scientist to lead its production team and drive the development of new QC materials. The role ensures quality, efficiency and innovation in production while mentoring junior scientists in troubleshooting and problem-solving. The position is full-time and permanent, based in Hornsby, NSW, with standard hours Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of laboratory scientists, provide training and foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Drive innovation in novel QC materials, including planning, pilot work and moving successful prototypes to full production.
• Manage complex contract-production projects, communicate clearly with clients, coordinate with suppliers and oversee the whole production process.
• Provide technical support for production and post-production testing, troubleshooting complex issues.
• Oversee precise laboratory production processes such as blood fractionation, pH adjustments and analytical balance usage.

Required profile

• Degree in Biomedical Science or a related field, with several years of experience in pathology (biochemistry, endocrinology) or the IVD industry.
• Proven expertise in laboratory production techniques and extensive experience in post-production testing and troubleshooting.
• Strong leadership, including training, mentoring and supporting a team.
• Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
• Experience with large-scale manufacturing of QC materials is advantageous; applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
