Senior Heavy Vehicle Technician

About the role

An Australian independent provider of heavy vehicle fleet maintenance, repairs and compliance support is looking for a Senior Heavy Vehicle Technician to join its team in Stapylton. The client services trucks, trailers and buses across workshops, customer sites and field service operations in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. This is a casual position with a temp-to-perm opportunity and an ASAP start.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out major and complex vehicle repairs and maintenance
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
• Inspect vehicles and identify repair requirements
• Coordinate repairs with the Parts Team and Leading Hand
• Complete detailed inspections and accurate job reports
• Ensure repairs meet company, safety and NHVR standards
• Monitor workshop productivity, quality and turnaround times, and identify recurring faults to reduce rework
• Mentor apprentices and junior technicians and help train new team members
• Liaise with customers, site supervisors and suppliers when required, and research technical information for complex repairs
• Manage repair timeframes and workshop priorities, following company servicing, safety and operational procedures

Required profile

• Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology or equivalent, and a current trade licence
• Current valid driver's licence
• Proven tenure as a qualified tradesperson
• Substantial experience repairing and maintaining heavy vehicles or machinery, with the ability to diagnose and fix mechanical faults
• Understanding of leadership, training and mentoring practices

Required skills

• Working knowledge of WHS practices and regulations
• Welding, fabrication, hot work and confined space qualifications or experience are ideal

What we offer

• Casual pay of $61.25-$66.25 per hour plus super, depending on experience
• Permanent pay of $49.00-$53.00 per hour plus super, depending on experience
