Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Associate Principal Pathway

About the role

Our client, a Brisbane‑based engineering consultancy, is seeking a strong Senior Geotechnical Engineer to act as the second‑in‑command to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer. The role offers a clear pathway to a Principal position within 1‑2 years and involves hands‑on design leadership, mentorship, and site involvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical design on multiple concurrent infrastructure projects, delivering IFC‑quality reports and drawings with minimal rework.
• Mentor and develop a team of 3‑4 graduate to mid‑level engineers, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
• Engage directly with clients and contractors on‑site, building credibility and ensuring design intent is met.
• Undertake site rotations of 1‑3 weeks to support construction and resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Chartered (CPEng) and/or RPEQ qualified with ~15 years of geotechnical experience.
• Proven ability to work independently, take full accountability, and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• Eligible to work in Australia; international candidates considered with sponsorship.

Required skills

• Design of shallow and pile foundations (including Pell’s, Rowe & Armitage, Broms methods).
• Pile group analysis (Piglet or equivalent) and settlement assessment.
• Earth retaining structures (gravity, cantilever, RC L‑shape, anchored, MSE).
• Slope stability analysis (Slope/W) and RMS Version 4 risk assessment.
• Ground improvement techniques (surcharge, wick drains, geosynthetic reinforcement, CMC).
• Instrumentation and monitoring interpretation.
• Preparation of IFC drawing packages and specification documentation.
