Senior Frontend Engineer – Next.js & GraphQL (Sydney)

About the role

Persistent is looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join its digital engineering team in Sydney. You will work on consumer and corporate banking products, delivering end‑to‑end features that meet strict security and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and develop full‑stack features using Next.js and Node.js.
• Design, implement and maintain GraphQL APIs, including schemas, resolvers, subscriptions and federated services.
• Collaborate with product, design and backend teams to move features from specification to production.
• Lead technical design discussions, conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Ensure applications comply with banking‑grade security, PCI‑DSS and APRA requirements.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, test coverage and observability practices.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response for production systems.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in front‑end technologies.
• Proven production experience with Next.js (SSR, SSG, App Router, middleware, API routes).
• Hands‑on experience with GraphQL, Apollo Server/Client, DataLoader and federation.
• Strong knowledge of TypeScript, automated testing (Jest, Playwright/Cypress) and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and containerised deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Deep understanding of web security fundamentals such as OAuth 2.0, JWT, HTTPS and OWASP Top 10.
