Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

A well-established, nationally recognised organisation with a complex and diverse business portfolio is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant in Sydney. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own financial accounting and reporting across several business units, taking part in month-end reporting, providing financial insights and improving finance processes. The arrangement is a 6-12 month contract.

Key responsibilities

• Manage month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, with supporting documentation and timely resolution of outstanding items
• Analyse financial results and give variance commentary against budgets, forecasts and prior-year performance
• Partner with internal stakeholders to investigate financial issues and advise on accounting treatments and financial policies
• Support statutory reporting, audit requirements and compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting accuracy and efficiency
• Work with shared services and business teams to coordinate reporting and meet tight deadlines

Required profile

• CA/CPA qualification, supported by a relevant tertiary degree
• 3-5 years' experience in a similar financial accounting role within a medium to large organisation
• Strong experience in month-end close, management reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
• Solid understanding of financial controls, accounting standards and governance
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills in a deadline-driven environment
