Accountant – AP, Payroll and Month-End Close

About the role

Neara builds digital twins of electricity grids using machine learning, and is hiring an Accountant for its Australian and UK entities. This is a hands-on finance role covering AP, payroll, reconciliations and compliance, with an active part in month-end close and reporting. The team is lean, so you will have direct access to the Financial Controller.

Key responsibilities

• Accounts payable and expenses: process, code and approve supplier invoices, manage creditor payments and weekly payment runs, and process employee expense reimbursements via Airwallex with monthly reconciliations
• Own the AP system (Traild): manage approval workflows, follow up on approvals, fix coding discrepancies and missing documentation, and ensure invoices are paid within terms
• Bank reconciliations across all accounts, quarterly BAS preparation and submission to the ATO, and general ledger coding including GST/VAT allocation
• Monthly AUD payroll processing, STP-compliant, supporting employee queries and keeping accurate records
• Assist with month-end close (accruals, prepayments, general ledger), maintain the fixed asset register and contribute to close packs and management reporting

Required profile

• 2-4 years' experience in accounting or finance (AP, bookkeeping or assistant accountant level)
• CA or CPA, or working towards qualification
• Ambitious, self-directed accountant who manages a broad scope independently and follows discrepancies through

Required skills

• Familiarity with Xero or similar cloud accounting software
• Basic understanding of GST, BAS and Australian payroll
• Nice to have: month-end tasks, expense platforms (Airwallex, Dext, Traild, ApprovalMax), fast-growth or multi-entity experience, UK bookkeeping, VAT returns and HMRC filings
