Senior Engineer, Software and Systems

About the role

Austal, Australia's global shipbuilder and defence prime contractor, is hiring a Senior Software and Systems Engineer based in Henderson. The role contributes to a portfolio of research and development projects for defence and commercial maritime, initially focused on maritime autonomy, turning advanced software and control system concepts into deployable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop advanced software and control system technologies for next-generation maritime capability
• Integrate software with digital twin environments, embedded platforms and operational vessel systems, including propulsion, steering, safety, navigation, communications, mission and platform management systems
• Turn concepts into deployable solutions using the product development lifecycle, including research, prototyping, testing, demonstration and operational deployment
• Contribute to technology roadmaps for future products, platforms and services
• Evaluate and apply emerging technologies, tools and development approaches
• Grow the company's intellectual property, technical expertise and research capability through software engineering

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering complex software, control or automation systems from concept to deployment
• Project management experience, including scope definition, risk assessment, schedule management and delivery of technology projects, using Agile and iterative methods where appropriate
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
