Software Engineer, Business Accounts

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Software Engineer for its Business Accounts team in Sydney. The team builds the backend services that connect Cash, Yield, Lending and other product surfaces into one unified financial experience for businesses, and is a brand-new team at an early stage shaping the technical foundations of a core platform.

Key responsibilities

• Build backend services that connect Cash, Yield, Lending and other product surfaces into a unified financial experience for businesses.
• Deliver core financial workflows, including moving funds between accounts, optimising liquidity and responding to activity across payments, card spend and collections.
• Build reliable financial infrastructure such as reconciliation controls, unit registries, investment ledgers and integration rails.
• Write high-quality, testable code and contribute to observability, API design and maintainable engineering practices.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Design and other engineering teams to turn complex financial requirements into simple customer experiences.
• Contribute to backend services and financial workflows from design through production.

Required profile

• Professional experience building and shipping software, ideally in a backend or full-stack role.
• Interest in learning Kotlin; preferred experience with Kotlin, Vert.x, Temporal or Kafka.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as scalability, consistency, latency and reliability.
• Ability to collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, Design and engineering stakeholders.
• Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, owning outcomes and working with colleagues across countries and time zones.

Required skills

• Backend programming language and experience writing automated tests.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS or GCP, plus Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic or Splunk.
• Preferred: experience integrating with external service providers, building API-based systems, and experience in financial services, lending, payments, credit or another regulated environment.
