Senior Engineer – Drainage & Flooding

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Engineer – Drainage & Flooding to join its high‑performing Queensland team. This permanent position supports major road and rail infrastructure projects across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, offering a collaborative and flexible environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical input and lead drainage and flooding design packages.
• Support multidisciplinary project teams on significant transport programmes.
• Ensure analysis and design comply with Australian Standards, Austroads guidelines and TMR requirements.
• Prepare high‑quality technical reports and documentation.
• Occasionally travel to project sites as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• 7–15 years of commercial experience delivering drainage and flooding design for road or rail projects, preferably in a consultancy.
• Proven ability to deliver projects within scope, budget and schedule.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for building trusted client relationships.

Required skills

• Advanced capability with 12d software, including hydrology and hydraulic modelling.
• Expertise in drainage design workflows.
• In‑depth knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, Austroads guidelines and TMR requirements.
