Senior Electrical Designer

About the role

Fyfe's Power & Electrification Division is hiring a Senior Electrical Designer based in Sydney or Melbourne. The role shapes the delivery of major renewable energy, transmission and HV substation projects across Australia, working on wind, solar, BESS and utility infrastructure projects. It covers electrical balance of plant (EBOP) design for wind farms, solar farms and BESS developments, as well as HV transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality electrical design documentation for HV substations, utility infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
• Develop primary design deliverables including equipment layouts, cable routing, earthing systems, conduit layouts and detailed construction drawings.
• Support the coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary design packages to meet project and client requirements.
• Contribute to HV and LV power system designs, equipment selection and technical solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to improve design quality and project delivery.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in a design consultancy environment.
• Strong experience in HV substation design and detailed design delivery using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Experience delivering electrical designs across renewable energy, transmission, substations, power generation, hydrogen, oil & gas or related sectors.
• Proven ability to design LV and HV power generation and distribution systems, including equipment selection such as transformers and circuit breakers.
• Experience with HV and LV power system studies: load flow, short circuit, cable sizing, arc flash, discrimination and protection, earthing and harmonics assessments.
• Previous experience delivering Australian projects; High Voltage and Low Voltage switchboard design (AS 61439) and instrumentation and control systems exposure is a plus.
• Australian citizenship, permanent residency or full Australian working rights; agency applications not accepted.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electrical modelling software such as ETAP, EMTP or PSCAD.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards including AS 2067, IEEE 80, AS/NZS 1768, AS 3000, AS 3008, IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
