Senior Director – Public Sector CIO Expert

About the role

Gartner is seeking a Senior Director to serve as a Government CIO Technology Analyst, focusing on large federal, state and local government organizations. The role involves creating high‑impact research, advising senior public‑sector leaders and representing Gartner at conferences and client engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Produce innovative, must‑have research content and thought‑leadership on AI, cost optimization, operating models and cybersecurity for the public sector.
• Engage with CIOs and technology executives through virtual and in‑person meetings, providing actionable advice and supporting sales initiatives.
• Analyze market trends, identify root causes of client challenges and deliver strategic recommendations.
• Mentor junior analysts, contribute to research process improvements and represent Gartner’s methodology to clients and vendors.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience working with senior technology leaders in federal, state or local government (preferably in Australia).
• Demonstrated executive presence with the ability to influence C‑level audiences.
• Strong organizational, analytical and presentation skills, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Required skills

• Subject‑matter expertise in AI (regulatory environment, governance, cybersecurity), cost optimization and operating models.
• Deep knowledge of government technology markets, procurement best practices and public‑private technology partnerships.
