Senior Developer - Revenue NSW Taxes and Payments

About the role

Revenue NSW is looking for a Senior Developer to lead the development of a core Revenue NSW application ecosystem, overseeing a squad of developers and directly contributing to the modernisation of Taxes and Payments applications with cloud-native capabilities. The position is temporary until 30 June 2028, with potential conversion to permanent, and is based in Parramatta on a hybrid basis (2 to 3 days in the office). It sits within the Revenue Digital Division, under the Payments Modernisation Squad.

Key responsibilities

• Lead software engineers in a squad and coach and train less experienced IT professionals.
• Take part in the design, development, testing and support of Taxes and Payments applications.
• Ensure delivered solutions meet business needs and follow coding, quality and design standards.
• Promote and support agile / scrum practices and collaborate with business partners, stakeholders and vendors.
• Manage customer expectations and communicate clearly.

Required profile

• Full-stack developer with strong Java and React experience.
• Experience coaching and guiding junior IT staff.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Regular travel to Parramatta and partners may be required.

Required skills

• Java development, preferably Java 11+; microservices architecture and patterns.
• React, Redux, JavaScript ES6, CSS3; component libraries such as Bootstrap, Material-UI, Ant Design or Semantic.
• AWS (ECS, RDS) and infrastructure pipelines; running Spring Boot apps in Docker and tuning Docker.
• SQL, Oracle and Postgres query writing and tuning.
• Agile with CI/CD pipelines; knowledge of banking payment standards and ISO 20022 is highly desirable.
